Losers — Trump to FBI

The President also zeroed-in on the FBI and the Justice Department for not being harsher in its investigation of presidential candidate Hillary Clinton's handling of emails while secretary of state.

Dowd's claims did not come in isolation.

The presumptuous contention by one of President Trump's lawyers that a President cannot be culpable of occlusion of justice indicate a disputable defense procedure in the absolute Russia investigation as Trump's political advisers are progressively perturbed about the legitimate instructions he is receiving. Mueller confirmed that the FBI uses drones for domestic surveillance during the hearing on FBI oversight.

"Whether or not he actually misled the vice president was the issue, and that was ultimately what led to the president asking for and accepting the resignation of Gen. Flynn", Spicer told reporters on Feb. 14.

Many Americans of both parties, including me, urged the lame-duck Obama not to tie the hands of the president-elect by allowing the passage of a resolution that would make it more difficult to achieve a negotiated peace in the Middle East.

Trump questioned the direction of the federal law enforcement agency and wrote that after Comey, whom Trump fired in May, the FBI's reputation is "in Tatters - worst in History!"

Michael Flynn, on the right, who was forced out as Donald Trump's national security adviser, pleaded guilty Friday to lying to the FBI about his contacts with Russian officials prior to the president's inauguration. "The investigation would surely continue, though perhaps with someone who doesn't think his job includes protecting the FBI and Mr. Comey from answering questions about their role in the 2016 election". Putin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Monday it was "absurd" to suggest that the phone conversation could have influenced Putin's decision and added that "such requests couldn't have been passed on" to him.

"It's harmful to him", Georgetown University law professor Michael Seidman said. The White House is considering reviewing how some tweets, particularly related to the Russia probe, get posted.

Hewitt called on the Department of Justice to "appoint a special counsel to investigate Strzok's actions as soon as possible". "That's obstruction of justice".

"I was with the president on Saturday all day, frankly, and I know that what he said is correct", Conway continued, referring to Dowd.

It is nonetheless a crime to lie to the FBI about any material fact in an investigation.

If that characterization is accurate, it demonstrates conclusively that the Flynn conversations were political and not criminal.

Trump then allegedly urged Comey to be lenient with his dismissed national security adviser, Flynn.

On Saturday, Trump tweeted that he "had to fire General Flynn because he lied to the Vice-President and the FBI".

If it were good law, former Presidents Reagan and Carter would have been prosecuted: Reagan for negotiating with Iran's ayatollahs when he was president-elect, to delay releasing the American hostages until he was sworn in; Carter for advising Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat to reject former President Clinton's peace offer in 2000-2001.

The detail heightened scrutiny on a private Oval Office meeting between Trump and Comey the day after Flynn was fired.

But CNN legal analyst Paul Callan disputed that argument.

Even so, while Congress has other ways to punish a president for trying to obstruct justice through impeachment, it remains an open question whether he could be prosecuted. But it may not protect the President politically. The president also retweeted a post saying new FBI Director Chris Wray "needs to clean house". Dowd said he stood by his version of events.

In the wake of the controversial tweet, Trump launched a fresh denial that he had pressured the former FBI director, tweeting Sunday that "I never asked Comey to stop investigating Flynn".
