Carlos Beltran Announces Retirement After 20-Year Career, First World Series Win

Houston Astros veteran Carlos Beltran announced his retirement from baseball after a 20-year Major League career with a post titled "Muchas Gracias, Béisbol" on The Players Tribune. And I am blessed to be a champion.

For his career, Beltran was a.279/.350/.486 hitter, good for an OPS+ of 119, but his bat wasn't all he brought to the table. He played for seven different teams throughout his career, but had never won a World Series - until he did it with the Houston Astros in early November.

This story will be updated soon with more details. "Muchas gracias, béisbol. I can't wait for what the next chapter holds".

Beltran got his storybook ending with the Astros' Game 7 victory over the Dodgers, giving him that long-awaited championship that had eluded him for the better part of two decades.

By the traditional counting stats, Beltran may not strike a lot of casual fans as a Hall of Famer. He admits that falling short of some milestones - 3,000 hits, in particular - is disappointing, but he feels comfortable that he took full advantage of his talent during stops with the Royals, Astros, Mets, Giants, Cardinals, Yankees and Rangers.

"I have such a passion for baseball, but at some point, it's time". After more than two decades of focusing only on things he could control, he's not going to get wrapped up in something completely out of his power.

Carlos Beltran is officially calling it a career.

Beltran, 40, is a native of Puerto Rico, and broke through to the majors with the Kansas City Royals in 1998, winning Rookie of the Year honors in 1999. "That God chose me to be one of those guys, I'm extremely blessed".
