Following a massive announcement from Disney in September, we knew to expect a stand-alone on-demand streaming service for ESPN sooner than later, and during the Disney earnings call on Thursday, November 9, CEO Bob Iger revealed its moniker: ESPN Plus. It will be shown exclusively on the recently-announced Disney online streaming service to be launched in 2019. Partially because it'll have less content, at least to start. Something similar happening to the Fantastic Four brand would be a real shot in the arm for the property, so here's hoping that the two companies will be able to work something out. "But it'll simply launch with less volume, and the price will reflect that". Now, the saga from "a galaxy far, far away" will be taking over television as well, when Disney launches a new live-action Star Wars series alongside another new Marvel superhero show.

Rumors of partnership between Disney and a rival studio have been beneficial in the past, as talks that Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures were discussing a Spider-Man and Marvel Cinematic Universe crossover helped boost momentum toward integrating the Spider-Man franchise into the greater setting, leading to the character's acclaimed appearance in Captain America: Civil War and a reboot to his standalone series that fought off the curse of diminishing returns.

Earlier this week, news broke that Disney had approached 21st Century Fox about acquiring the movie and television assets of the company. Subscribers will also have access to content from Disney subsidiary channels like Disney Junior and Disney XD. The service will apparently stream more than 10,000 live regional, national, and international sporting events each year, across a wide number of sports and leagues, including MLB, NHL, MLS, and Grand Slam tennis events (Wimbledon and the U.S., Australian, and French Opens).
