Huawei unveils AI-powered flagship Mate 10 phones

And today, Huawei has officially launched its Mate 10 lineup, which consists of three smartphones- Huawei Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro, and Mate 10 Porsche Edition. Both of the devices come with high-end specs, which isn't too surprising.

Then, renders of the Huawei Mate 10 hinted at an edge-to-edge screen with slim bezels on the top and bottom of the phone.

The Mate 10 comes with a 5.9-inch display with a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels, while the larger Mate 10 Pro comes with a 6-inch display with a resolution of 6-inch 2160×1080 pixels. While the Mate 10 comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage, the Mate 10 Pro has 6GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage.

Speaking of, both the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro feature dual-cameras around back, this time landing with a 12MP standard sensor and a 20MP monochrome sensor, both with an impressive f/1.6 aperture.

There are also differences in their power and storage, as the Mate 10 Pro can be bought with more RAM and twice the internal capacity, though it doesn't have a microSD card slot, which the standard Mate 10 does.

Huawei Mate 10 vs Mate 10 Pro: What's different?

Huawei has again partnered with iconic camera brand Leica to co-engineer the dual lens camera for the HUAWEI Mate 10 and HUAWEI Mate 10 Pro. The company is also using something called "Intelligent Battery Management" which helps with battery life, and the Mate 10 will offer a 30 percent better battery life than the Mate 10, says Huawei.

Among its many features, the NPU-enhanced chip will allow for real-time object recognition using the camera unit and can reduce battery and performance degradation over time using AI smarts.

Price and launch date are set to be revealed soon although Three Mobile has announced it will be stocking the Mate 10.

The Mate 10 Pro, on the other hand, will see a wider launch in over two dozen countries including Germany, France, Italy, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand.

Design and headphone jack aside, there isn't much to separate these phones when you delve beneath the surface.

Following the trend, the new Huawei smartphones also feature FullView displays offering long 18:9 aspect ratio.

Inside, the phone sports Huawei's latest octa-core Kirin 970 SoC, the most powerful chip ever made by the company.

Huawei was the world's No.3 smartphone maker by shipments previous year, temporarily overtaking Apple as No.2 in June as consumers awaited the new iPhone 8 and iPhone X line-up, data from Counterpoint Research shows.

Huawei has equipped the cameras with 4-in-1 Hybrid autofocus technology (Laser + Contrast + Phase-detection + depth), AI-assisted Hybrid digital zoom, and 4K video recording.
