Ever since the resurrection, it's been a long wait for an Android smartphone that blended Nokia's expertise in design and camera, and specifications that could take on the likes of flagships from Samsung and LG. HMD Global, which now manufactures and sells Nokia-branded Android smartphones globally, today launched its Nokia 8 in the Indian market. For starters, there is a humble 4GB of RAM, instead of 6/8GB as seen on contemporaries such as the OnePlus 5, and 64GB of expandable internal storage.

The Nokia 8's highlight is its ZEISS camera - a 13MP wide-angle sensor with another 13MP monochrome sensor. On the front is a 13MP camera with an f/2.0 aperture which can also record 4K videos at 30FPS.

The Nokia 8 packs a 3090mAh battery, an IP57 certification which means its splash proof, has dual SIM support, a front-mounted fingerprint scanner and a 3.5mm audio jack. The Nokia 8 runs stock Android 7.1.1 OS and the company has promised monthly security updates and yearly Android updates.

The Nokia 8 will be available in three colors at launch, Polished Blue, Tempered Blue, and Steel with Polished Copper coming in few weeks later.

On the back there is a vertical dual camera setup with with an LED flash. The smartphone is made with a single unit of aluminium block and the display is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 - the latest.

Nokia has been working hard to keep their devices secure as they've been consistently rolling out security updates soon after Google rolls them out for Nexus and Pixel devices. "With an advanced 10-nanometer design, the Snapdragon 835 Mobile Platform offers phenomenal mobile performance on the Nokia 8, delivering an exceptional user experience", said Larry Paulson, Vice-President & President, Qualcomm India. The Nokia 8 also has a new feature called Bothie, which allows you to use front and rear cameras simultaneously.

Powering the phone is an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset with Adreno 540 GPU.

The device [VIDEO] is also tipped to come in four variants, where two will support SIMs, while the other two will have support for dual SIMs. The camera also seems capable and brings some interesting features. There is also Nokia Ozo spatial 360° audio for surround sound when recording and during playback. Nokia 8 consumers from these 50 cities can avail of Nokia Mobile Care services from the convenience of their homes.
