Chelsea v Arsenal: Stats show Morata is more productive than Gunners star

Paul Merson believes that Alvaro Morata is a level above Alexandre Lacazette following his strong start to life at Chelsea.

Obviously these figures will change as the season unfolds, but as of now Morata has played seven more league minutes than Lacazette and he has been far more productive, registering three goals and two assists compared to the Frenchman's two strikes. He's hit the ground running.

With Chelsea and Arsenal spending well over £100 million on the forwards, Morata and Lacazette will be expected to provide the ammunition in what could be a goalfest.

However, former Arsenal man Merson feels that Morata is clearly the better signing of the two.

Ahead of a meeting between Chelsea and Arsenal on Sunday, the former England international told Sky Sports: "I like him [Lacazette], I think he is a good player - but Morata is top top drawer".

The strikers arrived in the Premier League as record transfers for their clubs in the summer as Morata joined Chelsea from Real Madrid for £65 million, while Lacazette moved from Lyon to Arsenal for £52 million.

"I watched him come on as a sub in the first game against Burnley and even in that 15 minutes... it's like when you watch something and someone's done something in 15 minutes and you think 'wow, they can play' and he did that about five times".

And with Eden Hazard now returning and the prospect of bringing another marquee striker to replace Diego Costa in January, he reckons Chelsea have a squad capable of being 'virtually unstoppable'.

"I like Lacazette don't get me wrong, but if I was playing Real Madrid on Saturday he would play in front of Lacazette".
