It also said that the bilateral cooperation is focused on finding "peaceful ways" to denuclearize North Korea, which is their common goal.

US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, scheduled to arrive in Manila on Saturday (Aug 5), will seek to build diplomatic pressure on North Korea, with Washington pushing for another round of tough United Nations sanctions on Pyongyang, according to one of his top aides.

U.S. debates ranged from a suggestion of bargaining between the U.S. and China to military options on North Korea, both hardly involving South Korea's role.

"Sanctions... will not solve the problem but political dialogue will, which encourages all the participants primarily North Korea and the U.S.to engage...", Vassily Nebenzia said in comments to press in New York.

KCNA did not name Warmbier in Friday's report but said the North had delivered "just punishment" to some US citizens who had carried out acts against the regime.

Nebenzia on Tuesday said that the North Korean situation was "indeed" a very urgent one, reiterating the Russian government's view that Pyongyang had not yet tested an ICBM.
